Aurora's SPARC workstation and server communications controllers add 4 or 8 asynchronous serial ports to the network from one SBus slot. The cards provide two levels of connectivity:
ò the entry-level solution for building workgroups: ideal for linking data entry terminals, serial printers, modems, and specialized data collection and control devices to the network;
ò the high-speed solution for communications: designed with larger character buffers and integrated RISC processors, the SX series is optimized for high-speed modem and DSU connections and data feeds.
The cards extend the LAN across dial-up connections for high-speed remote access, Internet links, or remote LAN communications while freeing the host system for applications processing.
